Re: Feeding Sugar Syrup and pH adjustment

Thanks Michael,
I am actually a chemical engineer and in my previous employment there were pH meters everywhere. Not now however.. I'll buy some litmus paper and ascorbic acid (vitamin C ;-) ) powder and give it a try when and if it does become necessary to feed some sugar syrup.

Feeding Sugar Syrup and pH adjustment

For a number of reasons it looks like I am going to have to feed a couple hives to get them ready to attempt successful over-wintering. It is something I am fundamentally against and very hesitant to do, but; it may prove to be the only way they have a chance to make it through without starving. I r...

Re: Bee Activity

Where are you? I'm in Point Roberts, WA and our blackberries are just about done, but; my bees are still all over what little bloom is left. I threw around a lot of white clover seed last year and it has caught on in a big way. The bees are all over it. I guess that means I can't cut the lawn..........

Re: Robbing

Thanks guys!
I'll wait it out. I'll go in this weekend when I get back down there and check to see what stores they have in case the robbing has left them short.

Robbing

I had one weak hive that was clearly under some robbing pressure so I made up a robber screen using the design from Michael Bush's website. I waited until after dark to instal it so that presumably all the residents would be at home and the robbers gone. The next morning there was a lot of robbers t...

BeeWeaver Bees in the PNW

Tyson, you asked me to let the group know how the BeeWeaver bees do in the PNW. I have now had them here for just over a year (one winter). I was concerned about how they would over-winter in our somewhat cooler wetter climate and that was why I made an effort to split them and create as many coloni...

Hello from Point Roberts, WA

Thanks Solomon for this forum. I am a relatively new beekeeper having started with a package from BeeWeaver in Texas in the spring of 2014 after spending over a year reading, listening to podcasts and building equioment. I am actually a Canadian living in Victoria, BC, but; my bees live in Point Rob...
