Re: Can honey with small hive beetles be eaten? Is it safe?

If you live in the south you will have SHB in your colony. I still eat the honey. If you let the hive get weak and you get slimed that is something different. I dont take chances on slimed colonies though I havent had one for several years.

Re: Scale Hive

I met a 60 year tenure beekeeper who said a scale hive taught him more in the last two years than everything else did in the past 10. He knew how much honey was consumed by the scale hive colony from end of spring flow to beginning of next years spring flow. He knew how much was consumed from end of...

Re: Bottom Boards - Screened or Solid

I use solid ,screened BB. Take a screened bottom board and build an oil pan that fits tightly to the bottom of the screen but is removeable as a slide drawer. The idea is that the colony can chase the SHB through the screen where they are sliced up by the DE. During the winter We cant open the hive ...

Re: Feeding Sugar Syrup and pH adjustment

I'll send you all the SHB you want. Just give me an address. Or how about if I send them General Delivery, Seattle? <<G>>

Right now I have a shortage as I put DE in the oil pans. However, There are several others around here who have a ready supply.

Solomon was consulted first about posting this subject. How do you boil a frog alive? You turn the heat up slowly. I am the new Programs director of a large beekeeping association that has only been taught large cell, treatment beekeeping. Each August there is a meeting about mites. Most of the membe...

Alabama

A better grouping would be S.C., Ga, Ala, Miss. and La. Also the Fla panhandle. That is the traditional SE and we have roughly the same weather. In KY. they get that strange white stuff in January. They have different weather. KY is a zone 6 and we are a zone 7,8,9. We probably have a greater SHB pr...
