Re: Hello From N. Ga.

You da man PT! I have enough room if I have time I think I will start with min order of something. I will log onto that neighbor thing an see can I get some free bees. Sadly, we decided to bail on our idea to provide a tree sale based on the trees from Wholesale Nursery. Since we are merely trying ...

Re: Hello From N. Ga.

the thought occurred to me that even if you have to give some of them away or plant them on another person's property at least bees will still have the benefit of them. This is a fantastic idea, and one that I'm already planning on doing. There is an app/website called "Nextdoor" (http://...

Re: Hello From N. Ga.

Have you ordered trees from this company before? I am amazed by the pricing and am considering coordinating a sale.

Can the site be upgraded to use SSL?

Let's Encrypt (https://letsencrypt.org/) is a free CA that this site could use to provide SSL connections to its users. Is it possible (via the forum control panel, for instance) to integrate Let's Encrypt into the site?

Re: Tetradium / Bee Bee tree from seed?

From what my friend told me today (and I am hoping he will join this forum), he has had the best success doing the following: 1. refrigerate the seeds for two months in a moist environment. The seeds that were treated in this way germinated in 5-7 days. Seeds that were not treated in this way germin...

Re: First Winter, Georgia, zone 7b

That's good to know! I also know that Solomon has fed his bees just straight granulated sugar ("Mountain Camp") and I have considered doing that. To answer your question, it was in the high 30s to low 40s for about a week during the snow cover.

Re: Tetradium / Bee Bee tree from seed?

I am trying to start many Tetradium seeds right now. I am using egg cartons and soil from my yard. The first bunches were one seed per segment. I got many more yard volunteers than true germinations. So I started another egg carton, this one with about 15-20 seeds per segment. I have two germination...

First Winter, Georgia, zone 7b

We had a freaky snowstorm in Georgia two weekends ago, and I received about 10 inches of snow. My bees were fine (I saw them flying after the fact and it was relieving), and this event is a real hallmark for the start of winter. Beekeepers in Georgia generally "do nothing" to their hives f...

Re: Queen rearing

This is a newbie question, queen-rearing-wise. If you're trying to read a boatload of queens, what is the criteria for a worker to decide, "Oh, this larva in the cell should be a queen! I will now continue to feed it royal jelly and build a huge ugly cell around it." From looking at Michae...

Goodbye Facebook, Hello old-school forum!

I'm joining the forum because I'm removing Facebook from my life. I'm living in a suburban area of Metro Atlanta. At the time of this post, I have had my bees for less than one year, purchasing two nucs in early May and then catching a swarm in June, bringing me to three hives. I purchased my nucs f...
