Dead Hive

Looking for help diagnosing a dead hive. This hive was captured in June in a swarm trap. I checked them about a month ago and they seemed fine. My notes say that I found the queen, open brood, capped brood, pollen and nectar(nectar stores were light). Last inspection I didn't find any hive beetles, ...

I use wood shavings from the wood shop. I have a ton of it. Make sure you use shavings, not dust - think hand planes. Easy to get going and if you pack them in your smoker they will last a decent amount of time.

They obviously have a need for protein. They may not be building up but just replacing winter losses. If you weather has been anything like mine, they have been active a lot this winter and I have seen them dragging a lot of dead bees out of the hive. Welcome to the group.

I have my bees in town also but we don't have a 2 hive limit. I try to stay low key to help keep my neighbors happy.
