Re: New in Western North Carolina

Hi John,

I am also in WNC near Asheville. Would you be interested in being part of a local treatment free group?

Re: New Member from Western North Carolina

That's fantastic. I am in the process of building dozens of swarm traps. I'd trade for honey and wax if you are interested.

We should start an Asheville Treatment Free Beekeeper group!

Re: Hi - Asheville Beekeeper

Thanks!

I like the idea of square hives but if it's going to be 13 frames that could get really heavy.

Hi - Asheville Beekeeper

Hello - I am a struggling 3rd year beekeeper from Asheville NC area. Been doing treatment free from the beginning but I was too foolish to go and learn the basics of handling, observing, etc. Now I have a mentor who treats but at least gives me sound observations and good basic knowledge. First year...

Re: TFB Episode 34 - Catching Swarms

Interesting. I'll make some closer to 6 frame boxes and stack 2 to make roughly 38 liter spaces. I'll rubber band some old comb in there. 2 8 frame mediums comes out closer to 50 liters - significantly more than the recommended 35 to 40. I can't say whether that is terribly significant or not though...

Re: TFB Episode 34 - Catching Swarms

Wow - that's great feedback thanks. Can't wait for spring! Anyone try fall swarm catching? We get a lot of Goldenrod and Aster. So I am on board with black comb and Lemon Grass Oil (8 drops) in a baggie on some paper towel. A few questions: What size box are you guys using? I am planning to create a...

TFB Episode 34 - Catching Swarms

This was a great episode and has inspired me to stop buying packages and build swarm bait hives. I've read McCartney's book several times over but I am looking for anecdotal advice. River valleys, mountains and wilderness - I have access to a huge variety of locations. I intend to take a shotgun app...
