Re: Cool pic of cooling/drying

I need to get my AŽ hives built so I can get away from all this lifting and moving boxes to get downstairs. I'll prop the bottom to get some additional flow

Cool pic of cooling/drying

It was 89 today. I can't believe those 3 boxes are near full. When I added 2 there was 8 of 9 frames with some drawn comb in 1. The third was added shortly after the 2nd as I had moved the swarm not too far from the trap spot and lots of foragers where still going back to the original, so I put a bo...

Cool pic of cooling/drying

Pretty hot today. Can't even see where they're going in. Plus are there any bees in the boxes?? :) https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170718/1dad981f118285415cea28e8395fc47e.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170718/8206633deb72549074df2f9341a8f619.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Cool pic of cooling/drying

I'm guessing they made these two holes into the entrance for either cooling or drying out some honey. They have both sides blocked off and a center column as well. The pic isn't the best. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170714/774f43940d6e52d81d89b38e18ed4042.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: 1 1/4 frames

That's exactly what my sides look like with the circular cut where my stop was set as well

Re: 1 1/4 frames

Some of the info you can ignore as I was originally going to cut a wedge for comb guide but decided to just make a groove and use thin pieces of scrap wood as the starter guides on the top bar. That's the angle info you're seeing that can be ignored

Re: 1 1/4 frames

Here you go. I use a table saw with a dado blade and a regular blade and a couple of sleds to make all my cuts

First swarm caught after recently moved

New state, new bees. 9, 1 1/4" frames in 8 frame equipment from a swarm trap. These pics are from a 27 day old catch. Didn't see the queen but only pulled the outside 3 or 4 frames. Foundationless and perfectly straight. They swarmed in the middle of berry flow and now clover everywhere. http:/...

Re: Need advice: advantages/disadv for adding a box

This is my first year with bees but my second for observing plant blooms. I don't plan on taking this year. The Brazilian pepper in aug/sept and the maleleuca in oct/nov should provide enough for December which I believe may be dearth. We also had salt bush in my neighborhood last year in November. ...

Re: Need advice: advantages/disadv for adding a box

I don't believe there is a real "winter" here in SW FL. There is some nectar available all year long and almost always able to fly here.

Need advice: advantages/disadv for adding a box

I have 3 hives here. All pretty similar in size. I am running 8 frame mediums with 1 1/4 inch foundationless frames and top only entrances. The past couple of peeks into the hives haven't seen much change in growth of drawn frames. 2 have pretty full bottom boxes and the top box is maybe around 30-4...
