Using borrowed combs in Ben Harden method

Postby Megan Hughes » Fri Apr 15, 2016 2:08 am

Can I use combs from a different hive to supply pollen or young brood for the Ben Harden method? I'm in the uncomfortable position of having a mix of deeps and mediums and don't know whether I'll find what I need in the right size in the hive I want to use to make the cells. So wondering if I can mix from a different have?

I have taken combs of brood along with nurse bees and added them to a weaker hive to boost numbers. I spritzed the comb and nurse bees down with sugar water with a little vanilla extract in it to cover their hive scent. It worked well for me and I observed no fighting amongst the bees. I've never used the Harden method but I can't see why it wouldn't work.
