Just curious as to what breed of bees you keep and what they generally keep in Germany?

The organic beekeepers keep mutts and carniolans mostly, the commercials keep carniolans and buckfast.
Many do home breeding, but we have some professional breeders, even some VSH breeding now.

There are some specialists trying to keep alive the original lines of black bees, these are the nigra, braunelle, AMM, which mostly are hybrids but with the feral genes still.

Mine are carniolan hybrids and one AMM mother colony with an apis mellifera mellifera queen from the canary island, where the local Haplotype of black bee is still present. This hive I bred some hybrids from which are AMM Buckfast hybrids now.
This year I got two elgon F1 queens bred at a friends homeyard, the mother comes from Erik Österlund.
These are with my carniolans.

Very interesting. I was curious if different breeds were kept in Germany and it sounds like they are, since I haven't heard of about half of the bees you listed

SiWolke could You name the oldest TF beekeepers in Germany with the oldest TF colonies living in Germany?

I don´t know.
I believe there are some people who are not in the public, who are tf.

I know about Christian Wurm from Austria. But I don´t know how long he is tf.

Those I know of are 4-5 years tf. People like me, but I´m 2 years tf. My bees are 4 years tf.

But forget the double deep outfit, it´s not working with our varroa impact. Smaller hives will do it.
Future times will find me with one deep with brood and shallows on top.

I myself taking the double-deep approach (in a variety of widths - from 5 frame deep nucs to 16-24 frame deep horizontals).

Wondering about the Pure Carniolans... have you worked with them as well?
wonder how they differ from Hybrids in multiple treats like overwintering capabilities , honey yield , pest/disease resistance..etc?

This will be the start of treatment free beekeeping in middle europe, I´m sure.

Norbert Dorn, my co-worker and now a dear friend, will do it, with our help, he the only one so engaged I know of, we will influence the laws and new cooperations will start this year!

And we will learn to do this under our circumstances without the US privileges of having swarms, ferals and tf queen breeders available. We are at a start not to be left behind! A time will come we don´t have to hide what we do and will not be laughed at because of high losses at the beginning. We will be respected and supported!
