Polystyrene hives and insulation

Postby moebees » Mon Apr 09, 2018 4:55 am

Hey Herdon, Yes I have heard of the Apimaye hive and looked into it a couple of years ago. I'm not sure how available at that time. I have not tried them or now anyone who has. What turned me off about them is that they seemed too complicated with many moving parts and not very amenable to making modifications.

@moebees Thanks. It seems like they are more available now, yet I don’t know anyone who has tried them. If it works the way it is supposed to, it seems that they would not need to be modified (part of the fun with wood).

For now, I think I will try insulating one of my wood hives and see if I notice a difference (will be hard to notice a trend, but working with what I have).

After watching the Apimaye hive reviews on YouTube, some Bee Barrel videos came up that also looked promising.

Seems like there is a lot of innovation in beekeeping and sooner or later, something will change my approach to TFB.

Give it a try Herndon. I bet you will notice a difference especially in the summer. Allot less bearding. My bees never beard on the polystyrene hives.
Make sure you let us know how it works for you.

I don't get the bee barrel.
